Professional Panel Risk Assessments Across the UK

Electrical Testing UK carries out panel risk assessments for businesses and public sector organisations. As a result, we identify safety risks in distribution panels and switchgear caused by age, condition, loading or non-compliance.

Distribution panels are a high-risk part of any installation. For example, overloads, loose connections and deteriorated insulation can lead to fire or electric shock. Therefore our engineers assess panels in detail and provide clear written reports with prioritised recommendations.

How Our Service Works

Comprehensive Panel Inspection

We assess panel condition, loading, protection, and compliance with current standards, identifying all significant risks.

Thermal

Thermographic Imaging

We use thermal imaging to detect hotspots from loose connections, overloads, and failing components not visible during visual inspection.

Legionella Testing

Clear Risk-Rated Reports

Each assessment includes a written report with findings ranked by severity and prioritised remedial actions for decision making.

Remedial Work Available

Where upgrades or remedial work are needed, Electrical Testing UK carries out the work directly under the same contract.

Commercial and Industrial Coverage

We assess distribution panels in offices, retail, warehouses, factories, and public sector buildings, covering both LV and HV systems.

Panel Risk Assessments for All Sectors

Our panel risk assessments identify faults, ageing issues and compliance risks. Moreover, they cover electrical distribution panels and switchgear across all types of commercial premises.

  • Ageing electrical panels: We identify deterioration, outdated components and protection devices that are no longer fit for purpose.
  • Industrial switchgear and MCCs: We assess condition, load performance and protection coordination. In addition, we use thermal imaging to detect hidden faults.
  • Post-incident assessments: We determine the causes of faults or near misses. As a result, we can confirm whether equipment can safely remain in service.
  • Compliance and insurance reporting: We provide documented evidence for insurers, audits and due diligence requirements.
  • Public sector and local authority estates: We deliver consistent assessments and consolidated reporting across multi-site portfolios.

Panel Risk Assessment: FAQs

What does a visual and physical panel inspection include?
We inspect the enclosure, internal components, busbars, terminations, protective devices and labelling. In each case, we look for damage, overheating, contamination and non-compliance with design standards.

What is included in a thermographic survey under load?
We use thermal imaging on energised panels. As a result, we identify hotspots caused by loose connections, overloads or failing components that are not visible during standard inspection.

How are panels assessed against current standards?
We assess panels against BS 7671 and other relevant standards. We then classify any departures by risk level. Moreover, we separate them into safety-critical and improvement items.

What is included in the report and risk classification?
Reports include all findings with photos, C1 to C3 risk ratings and prioritised actions. In addition, we provide annotated thermographic images with temperature data and clear explanations.

Why Organisations Choose Our Panel Risk Assessment

  • Thermographic imaging included: Thermal imaging is standard on every assessment, so we detect hidden faults under load. Therefore it is never an optional extra.
  • Assessment and remedial work in one contract: We can complete the required upgrades and repairs directly. As a result, there is no need to involve third parties.
  • Experience across all panel types and voltages: From distribution boards to HV switchgear, we assess every type safely and accurately.
  • Clear reports for compliance and planning: We photograph and risk-rate our findings. Moreover, we format them for insurance and maintenance use.
  • Qualified in-house engineers: Our NICEIC-qualified engineers carry out all work. Therefore there is no subcontracting and full accountability throughout.
